COFFEE HUNTERS STORY

Within El Salvador where coffee production is active, the Santa Ana region adjoining the border of Guatemala produces high-quality coffee of exquisite balance in acidity, due to its volcanic soils. Selva Negra Farm, managed and protected by the prestigious Mathies family over the generations, retained a remnant of an unknown coffee. The coffee is called “Kenya” and is said to originate from a wild species brought back by a Salvadoran who visited Africa in the 1960s. Kenya was then cultivated only in small areas in El Salvador but has almost disappeared. Nobody knows which part of Africa the coffee came from, and why it was called “Kenya” . Kawashima identified the name of this coffee cultivar which even the owner of the farm did not know about. However, without the commitment to quality and credo of the farm owner, Roberto Mathies Regalad, this rare coffee cultivar would never have been introduced to Japan.

2019

Welcomed by the sweet, gentle aroma of vanilla and chiffon cakes, it spreads gently over the tongue with a rich and refreshing acidity resembling lemons and yogurt.

2018

Aroma reminiscent of apricot and ginger. A thick texture like dark molasses. Gentle acidity resembling a pear with an almond aftertaste. Its sweetness is like to be in the presence of a big tree and its colorful flavors blossom around it.

2017

Flavor of caramel with yoghurt-like acidity. Round mouthfeel giving thick, sweet aftertaste with a hint of rum and raisin.

2016

Peary sweetness expands on the palate. Extensive sweet, toasty and caramel-like aftertaste. Full body with a lingering sweetness.

2015

Peary sweetness melting on the palate with a distinguished aroma. Smooth mouthfeel resembling dark molasses with a toasty sweetness expanding on the palate.

2014

The intricate flavor of yoghurt and orange with an aroma of spice and caramel. Smooth, butter-like texture with a lingering aftertaste.
