COFFEE HUNTERS STORY

Taking a domestic flight from Bogota, the capital of Colombia, for about an hour, one arrives at Cúcuta the capital of the Northern Santander department located only six kilometers away from the Venezuelan border. Driving one hour and half to Salzar in the mountainous area then travelling further into the mountains for another hour, is the Rancheria Farm which cultivates genuine Typica Cultivar, an extremely rare cultivar in the Salzar district. Isolated deep inside the mountains, this genuine cultivar has been miraculously preserved without any impurities. Jose Dario, the owner of this five hectares farm, inherited the farm from his father and works there alone except during the harvesting season. The farming method is close to extensive farming, using no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Because it is so isolated, the farm can’ t obtain organic certification - but Jose Dario does not mind it at all.
